Grandpa Clark of Selma hanged himself in a shed at his home
last Saturday morning. He was quite aged and had been in poor health for some
time and it is thought that his mind became deranged. He went to the shed, tied the rope around his
neck and a rafter and got up on a carpenter’s sawhorse and jjmped off. He was
not quite dead when found and taken down but expired soon afterwards. Mitchell
B. Clark was 79 years of age and had been a resident of Selma many years and
was universally liked and respected and his tragic death is deeply regretted by
everybody. Those left bereaved have the sympathy of the community. Mitchell B. Clark was born in Fountain
County, Indiana Sept 24, 1833, died July 13, 1912 aged 78 years 9 months 19
days. He leaves an aged wife, being only 7 days younger than himself, also four
children, three boys: John, Charles and Elmer of Selma, and one girl, Mrs. Mary
E. Pinneo of Marshalltown, Iowa, all being present at the funeral. He was
married to Keziah E. Cain of Fountain County Ind, April 11, 1854, passing their
58th anniversary April 11, 1912. He was a soldier in the war of the
Rebellion and was drawing an aged pension of $20/month. He was an honest,
upright mand and loving father. He was a member of church from youth and was
always willing to help in advancing Christianity and the work of the church.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to
rest in Oakwood cemetery. - kbz
