New Richmond - Merrill A. Clapp, 72, of New Richmond died in St. Joseph Hospital at Kokomo at 5:45 a.m. today. He had been in ill health for the past two months. He was retired from Alcoa Aluminum Co. of America at Lafayette. Born July 11, 1902. at Oakwood, Ill., he was a son of Alonzo and Alberta Price Clapp. He had lived in the New Richmond community since 1920 and had attended DePauw University and Central Normal College. Mr. Clapp was a member of the New Richmond United Methodist Church and Montgomery County Retired Teachers Organization. He was married to Opal Jane Bennett on Aug. 9, 1930, at New Richmond. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Faye (Ruth Jane) Suter of Kokomo and two grandsons, Gary and Don Suter. A brother is deceased. Services are incomplete in Helms Funeral Home at Linden. - - New Richmond - Services for Merrill A. Clapp, 72, who died Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital at Kokomo will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Helms Funeral Home at Linden. The Rev. Arthur Schenck and the Rev. Tom True will officiate. Burial will be in new Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. -

Oakwood - Merrill Artz Clapp, 72 of New Richmond, Ind., a native of Oakwood and frequent visitor there, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 12, 1975) at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. Born July 11, 1902, in Oakwood, he moved to New Richmond in 1920. He was married Aug. 9, 1930, in Morris, Ill., to Opal Bennett, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Jane Suter of Kokomo; two grandchildren, Gary and Donnie Suter, both of Kokomo; a niece, Mary Ruth Grimes of Oakwood; and several cousins in the Danville area. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence A. Clapp of Oakwood. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Helms Funeral Home in Linden, Ind.
