Attica - Hugh D. Chumley, 76, of 1107 Avenue Four, Attica, died at 2:55 p.m. Saturday at Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. He suffered a heart attack while riding a motorcycle near Wingate. He was a retired farmer and was formerly employed as a lathe operator at a steel mill near Gary. He lived most of his life in the Attica area. He attended school in Kentucky and was a veteran of World War I in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Attica. Born Nov. 26, 1899, he was a son of William and Mary Chumley of Harrisburg; Ky. He was married to Josephine Leaf on Nov. 28, 1927, in Attica. Survivors are his wife; five sons, Phillip and William, both of Attica, Leland of Ladoga, Thomas of Covington and Franklin of Romulus, Mich.; a sister, Mrs. Mattie Ford of Tampa, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dale Mauss Funeral Home at Attica with the Rev. Bob Hamblen officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Attica. Friends may call at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. today.
