CHRISTEN, Edyth Abernathy

Pekin, Ill.—Edyth L. Christen, 82, Pekin, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 28, 1989 in Pekin Memorial Hospital.

  She was born Feb. 16, 1907 near Covington, the daughter of Perly Benjamin and Oma Jane Lowe Abernathy. She was married Nov. 26, 1932 in Lafayette to Norman Christen, who survives.

  She co-owned drug stores with her husband in Garrett, Ind., from 1939-1947 and Angola, Ind., from 1952-1955. During that time they resided at Clear Lake, Route 3, Fremont, Ind. until 1988. She also worked at Illinois Printing Co. of Danville, Ill., from 1922-1927 and also Haywood Printing Co. of Lafayette from 1927-1932.

  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garrett and also was a member of the International Brotherhood of Bookbinders.

  Surviving besides her husband are one brother, Franklin Gerald Abernathy, Pekin; five nephews and six nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

  Entombment services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Mausoleum in Danville with the Rev. Arthur Schudde of Christ Lutheran Church, Peoria, Ill., officiating.
