Kingman - Mrs. Bessie Valaria Childers, 80, died Saturday morning, Jan. 5, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lois Barker, at Cates. She was born Nov. 11, 1882, in Fountain County, a daughter of Henry and Mary Elizabeth Newnum Smith. She married Richard Childers, who died in April of 1927. Mrs. Childers was a member of the Centennial EUB Church. Survivors include the daughter of whose home she died and another daughter, Mrs. Ruby Barker of Cates; a son, Lee Childers of near Kingman; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the Woodrow Funeral Home. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs was in charge. Interment was in the Centennial Cemetery east of Yeddo.
