Yeddo—Elias Chavez, 73, of Calumet Park, Ill., died Saturday, April 30 at his home. He had been ill for some time and had resided with a son, Pete, in the Yeddo community on Kingman Route 1 for several weeks before returning to his home last week.
He was born June 22, 1900, in Jalisco, Mexico, the son of Peter H. and Gertrude Chaores Chavez. On April 6, 1923, he married Martina Delgado, who died Feb. 1, 1974.'
A resident of Chicago since 1947, he was a member of the St. Isadore Catholic Church in Blue Island, Ill.
Other survivors include another son, Surf of Calumet Park, and several grandchildren.
He was the last of nine children.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Donatus Catholic Church in Blue Island. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Covington, with the Rev. Donald Vernon officiating.
Visitation was at the Lucas Funeral Home, 1333 W. 127th St., Calumet Park, from noon to 10 p.m. Tuesday.
