WILLIAMSPORT — Esther L. (Butler) Chambers, 91, a resident of Woodland Manor Nursing Center, Attica, for the past five years, died at 10:03 a.m. on Aug. 19, 1999 at Woodland Manor. Born Feb. 6, 1908, near West Lebanon, she was the daughter of Francis M. and Jessie Pilkington Butler. She married John Carlton “J. C.” Chambers on April 4, 1931, in Crawfordsville. He preceded her in death in 1978. She had resided in Warren County most of her life, and in Williamsport 15 years prior to relocating to the nursing home. She graduated from West Lebanon High School in 1927. She was employed as an operator for the telephone company in West Lebanon and Pence, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church, and a 50 year member of the Warren County Extension Homemakers and the Bunco Club. Survivors include: son, Jerry L. (Delores) Chambers, Indianapolis; daughter, Marian (William) Jordan, Williamsport; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by three brothers and one sister. Funeral services were 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Fisher Funeral Home in Williamsport with Rev. Charles B. Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery.
