LAFAYETTE — Lee Edward Chafin, 82, Lafayette, died at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2007 in Heritage Health Care. He was born Nov. 15, 1924 in Fowler, the son of Raymond and Lulu (Thompson) Chafin. He married Ada Mary Scott July 3, 1947. She preceded in death May 13, 2006. He had resided in Battle Ground for most of his life. However, he had been residing at Lake Hide-Way in Kingman for several years. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps. He was a car mechanic and was owner and operator of Chafin-Hardison Garage for 25 years. He had also worked in the machine shop at Wabash Automotive. He was a member of the American Legion Post #492. His hobbies were fishing, camping and working on golf carts. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include: three sons, Lee "Skip” Chafin Jr., Lafayette, Zachary (Cheryl) Chafin, Greenhill, and Mike (Patty) Chafin, West Lafayette; a daughter, Cathy (Karl) Childers, Lafayette; a brother, Carl (Helen) Chafin; two sisters, Helen (Pete) Kerr and Loretta (AI) Brewer; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Padgett. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday in Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette, with military honors performed by American Legion Post #492. Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, Lafayette. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation. – jlr
