Covington - Mrs. Bessie Thomas Caughrean, age 69, of San Francisco, Calif., sister of Mrs. Ed (Lulu) Nicklas of 12 Douglass Manor, Covington, died there Tuesday, Feb. 6, according to word received by local relatives. Mrs. Caughrean was born Oct. 16, 1898 at Montmorenci, Ind., the daughter of Hurshel and Rhoda Wilson Thomas. In 1904 her parents moved to Parke County. Later they moved to Fountain County and resided near Covington where Mrs. Caughrean attended the Covington schools. She was graduated from Covington High School with the class of 1917. That summer she attended a term of college at Indiana State Normal, now University, in Terre Haute. She taught school two years in Fountain County. She was married in 1934 to Milo Caughrean, who survives. Surviving, in addition to the husband are one daughter, Mrs. John (Maxine) Johnston of Pacifica, Calif.; one son, Paul Edwin Keller of Mooresville, Ind.; five grandchildren, Barbara, Patricia and Deborah Johnston and Chris Alan and Rosemary Lyn Keller. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Millikan and Mrs. Belle Millikan of Tangier and Mrs. Ed Nicklas of Covington. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Thomas of Veedersburg, and Clarence Thomas of Tangier, both of whom died four years ago.
