COVINGTON – Charles Kenneth Cates, 70, of Danville, Ill., died at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville. He had been in ill health for several years. Mr. Cates was a member of the Second Church of Christ. He was a retired truck driver and had served as a nurses’ aide in the Veterans Hospital at Danville until he was forced to retire due to ill health. He was a World War II Air Corps veteran. Born April 25, 1916, at Covington, he was a son of Schuyler La Tourette and Mary Robb Cates. He was graduated from Covington High School. He lived all of his life at Covington before moving to Danville in 1965. Surviving are two brothers, Harold of Berwyn, Ill., and LeRoy of Santa Susana, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. Ray (Louise) King of Indianapolis, Mrs. William (Mary Eleanor) Salts of Rt. 1, West Lebanon; Mrs. William (Delores) Howard of Covington; Mrs. Clarence (Martha) Daven Jr. of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Edith Green of Danville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Morning officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday. -– jlr
