Gessie - Mrs. Bessie F. Cates, 76, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill where she had been a patient the past five days. She had been in failing health several years. Born Nov 19, 1883 in Cates, she was a daughter of Melinda Clark & William A. Summers. She married Roy Cates Jan 20, 1907. He died Sept 15, 1943. Mrs. Cates was a member of the Cates EUB Church, Gessie Ladies Aid Yeddo OES No. 313 and Royal Neighbors of America, Evergreen Camp No. 1652 of Gessie. She lived at Cates prior to moving here 12 years ago. Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. Nixola Ervin of near Danville, Ill, Mrs. Belinda Kelch of Gessie and Mrs. Lestina Johnson of near Tangier, two sons, Millard of near Covington and Willard of Cates; a half brother, Claude Summers of Attica; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gessie EUB Church with Rev. CE Parks in charge. Burial in Kingman Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may call at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington after 7 p.m. Tuesday

Mrs. Bessie Flora Cates, age 76 died at 5:15 p.m. Monday 10-17-1960 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville Ill where she had been a patient five days. She had been in ill health for several years. She was b 11-19-1883 in Cates, the daughter of William A. and Melinda Clark Summers. She was married 1-20-1907 to Robert Cates who preceded her in death 9-15-1943. She was a member of the Cates EUB Church, Gessie Ladies Aid, Yeddo Chapter 313 Order of Eastern Star and Ever Green Camp 1656 Royal Neighbors of America of Gessie. She had been a resident of Gessie for 12 years and prior to that time had resided in Cates. Mrs. Cates is survived by 5 children: Mrs. Nixola Ervin of Danville, Route 4; Mrs. Melinda Kelch of Gessie; Mrs. Lestine Johnson of Tangier Route 1; Willard of Cates and Millard of Covington Route 3; 12 grandchildren; 3 greats and one half brother, Claude Summers of Attica. She was preceded in death by one daughter, three sister and four brothers. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thurs at the Gessie EUB Church with Rev. CE Parks officiating. Burial in Kingman Fraternal cemetery.
