CATES, Alfred - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Cates, Ind - A lifelong resident of Fountain County, Alfred Cates, 85, died at 2 a.m. Sunday Jan 28, 1940 at his home here following a four-day illness with influenza. Mr. Cates was born Oct 22, 1854 in Fountain County, Ind, son of Joshua and Martha Phillips Cates. On Nov 15, 1874, he wasmarried to Sarah Hollowell who survives together with two sons, Clayton, West Terre Haute, and Hardy, Cates; a daughter, Gusta Rennick, also of Cates, 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services have been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cates United Brethren Church. Burial in Harveysburg Cemetery with Frank Shelby, Covington mortician, in charge.
