Covington, Ind. - Robert Duane Carrigan, 44, of Covington Route 2, died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday (Aug 3, 1972) at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Indianapolis. He had been ill two months. Born Aug. 20, 1927, in Vermilion County, Ill., he was the son of George and Ethel Morrison Carrigan. On June 15, 1947, he married Doris Prather, who survives. A resident of the Perrysville and Rileysburg areas most of his life, he was a 1945 graduate of Perrysville High. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. He attended the Coal Branch Church near Perrysville and was a member of Iron Workers Local 380 and the Veterans of Foreign War, both at Danville, Ill. He was a stock and super-sprint racing driver for 20 years in Indiana, Illinois and Missouri. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Tom (Chrystal) Smith of Covington Route 2, Mrs. Tony (Rita) Lewis of Vacaville, Calif., and Donna at home; his mother of Covington Route 2; three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Lucas of Danville, Mrs. Lorraine Boudreau of New Buffalo, Mich. and Mrs. Norma Hughes of Madisonville, Ky.; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by a daughter, his father and a brother. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home, with the Rev. Grover Williams officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park at Danville. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday.
