Marx Carr, a resident of the Veedersburg community for the past 22 years and a life time resident of Fountain county died Sunday night about 8 at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville where he had been a heart patient for the past 6 weeks. Mr. Carr had been ill for some time before entering the hospital. He was active in democratic politics for many years and just last year committeeman because of his declining health. He was employed as a welder at the C&EI RR shop in Danville many years. He was born Feb 2, 1902, a son of George and Susan Teegarden Carr near Cates. On Aug 10, 1927, he was married to Lucille King, who survives. Also surviving is a brother, Dempsey of Veedersburg and a sister, Sadie of Veedersburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Also surviving are several nephews and nieces, Wayne Carithers, a nephew and Gregory King, brother-in-law, spent much time in the Carr home and were close to the deceased as was his father-in-law, Mr. Earl King and his wife, Lucille's sisters and a host of friends. Marx was a member of the Cooper chapel Church as a child and was baptized into the Veedersburg EUB Church about two weeks ago at the hospital by the Rev. Pritchard. Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Veedersburg EUB Church with Rev. JS Pritchard officiating. Burial in Cooper's Chapel cemetery with Fishero Funeral Home in charge.

Marx F. Carr, son of George and Susan Teegarden Carr, was born Feb 3, 1901 near Cates, Indiana. He departed this life at Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville, Indiana Dec 21, 1952 at age 51 years 10 months and 18 days. Marx was the youngest of seven children. Two of them, Dempsey Carr and Sadie Carr of Veedersburg survive Four sisters, Goldia Obermiller, Flo Davis, Clennie Carithers, Clara Miller, his mother and father preceded him in death. At the age of six months, Marx’s mother passed away and he was taken care of by an uncle, John Carr for several years. Marx’s early life was spent in Frankfort, Indiana where he was employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad. On Aug 10, 1927 he was married to Lucile King of Brocton, Ill. They were married in New York City. On Aug 10, 1952 they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Having no children of their own they have cared for in their home at various times the motherless nieces and nephews of Marx. Gregory King, Lucile’s brother was raised in Marx’s home as a son. He and his wife and two little girls are considered as their own children. Also one nephew, Wayne Carithers has been as a son to them. At his death Marx was an employee of the C&EI Shops at Danville Ill. Three years ago Marx developed a heart ailment which eventually led to his death. After a valiant fight of six weeks in the hospital he had to give up the fight for life. During Marx’s stay in hospital, Marx made a wonder friend of the Rev Pritchard and two weeks ago Marx was baptized in the faith of the EUB Church as all his life he was a strong believer in Our Father who art in Heaven. Marx was a member of the Cooper’s Chapel UB Church since he was a child. Other survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, and many dearly loved neighbors and friends. Also his father-in-law, Earl King of Veedersburg, his sister-in-law Lenora Ousley of Princeton, NJ and an aunt, Mrs. Mary Mercer of Princeton, NJ all of whom loved Marx as much as they would a son, brother or nephew of their own. - kbz
