Veedersburg – Mrs. Josie May Carpenter, 75, died Tuesday at Bratton Nursing Home near Rockville where she had been a patient 16 months. She had been seriously ill the last three weeks. Born near Veedersburg, she was married to James M. Carpenter in 1907. He died in 1935. She was a member of the New Liberty Christian Church, southeast of Veedersburg. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Hensley, Wallace and Mrs. Louise Scalf, Long Beach, Calif; three sons, Arnold, Muncie; Homer, Bloomingdale and Harry, Los Angeles, Calif; a brother, Newll Furr, Crawfordsville and half sister, Mrs. Mabel Palmer, Veedersburg.

Funeral services for Mrs. Josie May Carpenter, age 75, of Veedersburg, who died Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the Bratton Nursing Home near Rockville, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Fishero Funeral Home in Veedersburg. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated with burial in the Bonebrake Cemetery. Mrs. Carpenter was born near Veedersburg on May 14, 1886, a daughter of Ross and Ella Greenley Furr. She was married on Dec. 28, 1907, to James M. Carpenter, who preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 1935. Mrs. Carpenter had been a patient at the Bratton Nursing Home for 16 months and had been seriously ill three weeks. She was a member of the New Liberty Christian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Hensley, of Wallace, and Mrs. Louise Scaif, of Long Beach, Calif.; three sons, Arnold, of Muncie, Homer of Bloomingdale and Harry of Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother, Newell Furr of Crawfordsville; a half sister, Mrs. Mabel Palmer of Veedersburg; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
