Mrs. Naomi Campbell, 56, well known woman of the Veedersburg vicinity, passed away at her home 2 1/2 miles northwest of Veedersburg, Saturday night, Jan 2, at about 1 o'clock. She had been ill only a short time
and was in Veedersburg the evening she passed away, returning home about 8 o'clock.
Mrs. Campbell was active in community affairs all her life. She served the county as attendance officer for a number of years, and always stood for fair play and community betterment.
She was born in 1887 (according to Certificate of Death # 759, she was born Aug 30, 1887) at Meade, Kansas, (Death Record states Oswego, Labette County, Kansas) the daughter of Merritt and Mable York Read. In 1906 she was married to Custer Campbell, a union that lasted happily until his death in September of 1942.
Surviving are four sons: Merritt and Max of Anderson; Richard of the US Army and Cedric of Veedersburg; her father, Merritt of Veedersburg; one sister, Mrs. Emilia Beatty of North HOllywood, Calif; two brothers,
Harold Read, Burbank Calif and John Read of Danville, Ill. Also two grandchildren survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Veedersburg Christian Church where she was a member with Rev. OW
