Robert Dallas Calvert was born Dec 23, 1936 in Veedersburg and died Aug 22, 1953. He was the son of Arthur and Eva Calvert and spent his life in Veedersburg. He leaves to mourn his loss, his father, mother, sister and four brothers, Mrs. Betty McCown of Veedersburg, Charles and Clarence of Lawton, Mich; James of near Rob Roy; William of the US Army in Washington state and 17 nieces and nephews and a hose of friends. Two brothers preceded him in death, Carl Richard in infancy and Normal Dale who was tragically killed in an auto wreck in Paw Paw, Mich on June 7, 1953 just two months and 15 days preceding the death of Robert. “Bobbie your memory is in our keeping You are not dead, you’re only sleeping!”

Robert D. Calvert 16-year-old Veedersburg youth was tragically killed last Saturday evening as he was accidentally pinned against a tree by a truck getting ready to unload coal at a residence in Waynetown. Robert was helping Veedersburg trucker, Clarence Smith and Mr. Smith’s son, Joe unload coal when the accident occurred. He was rushed to the Culver Hospital and died in about two hours following the mishap. The boys were ready to removed the top from the coal chute and Mr. Smith started to position the truck and believed the boys to be clear when Robert was pinned between the rear of the truck and a tree. The victim is the son of Mr. Arthur Calvert the father and the mother, Mrs. Harry Booe of Veedersburg. This is the second tragedy in the family to occur this summer. Norman Calvert, an older brother to Robert was killed in an accident on June 7 in PawPaw, Michigan. Surviving besides the father and mother is a sister, Mrs. Betty McCown of Veedersburg and four brothers: Charles and Clarence of PawPaw Mich; James of Rob Roy and William now in the armed forces. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Fishero Funeral Home in Veedersburg with burial in Bonebrake Cemetery. – kbz
