The following taken from the San Bernardino (Calif.) Sun tells of the death of Mrs. O. M. Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell is a former Fountain county resident and a brother of Mrs. Kate Jones of near Steam Corner: “Mrs. O. M. Caldwell died just before 9 o’clock last night. Life had hung by a thread for days, and friends had watched almost momentarily for it to break and give the spirit flight, and the end came in the early evening. “For years Mrs. Caldwell had suffered with an affection of the heart, and at one time after coming to San Bernardino she left the city for nearly a year, going back to San Francisco, in the hope that relief would come. But all to no purpose. Recently the situation became much worse, and two days ago grew so acute the physician advised the relatives that the end might come at any minute and that it could not long be delayed. Through the hours husband and sister watched along with other friends, until the summons ended their vigil. “A number of relatives live in San Francisco, and there the family burying plot is located. It was therefore determined to take the body there for interment, and it will go north at 2:30 this afternoon, accompanied by Mr. Caldwell and Mrs. G. E. Grant, Jr., a sister of Mrs. Caldwell, who was with her at the last and whose home is in San Francisco. There will be no services here, these being held in San Francisco. “Mrs. Caldwell was a native of Sacramento, and for some years her home had been in San Francisco. There she was married to O. M. Caldwell six years ago. A little less than five years since they came to San Bernardino, Mr. Caldwell being sent here in charge of the Great American Tea Company’s store, and since that time this city has been their home. They resided at the Hobbs House. “Mrs. Caldwell was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, and during her residence here had formed a large circle of friends, whose sympathy is extended to the bereaved husband and relatives. Of the latter, two sisters and her father reside in San Francisco and a brother in Nevada. “Mr. Caldwell expects to return to the city, perhaps next week.” – jlr
