Lewis Cable, age 49, of Danville, father of Mrs. Harold (Gaye) Martin, Covington Rt. 3, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, in the Veterans Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been in failing health five years and seriously ill since March. Born in Fountain County, Sept. 22, 1912, he was a son of John and Mary Lou Givens Cable. He was married July 24, 1941, to Mildred Briles, who survives. A native of Veedersburg, Mr. Cable and his family resided in that community until moving to Danville six years ago. Mr. Cable was a veteran of service in the Army during World War II and had retired last August from the Veterans Administration Hospital, Danville, where he was employed as a guard and fireman. Mr. Cable was a member of the Veedersburg EUB Church and the Veedersburg Masonic lodge. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Gaye Martin, Covington Rt. 3; a brother, Earl Cable of Veedersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Naomi King of Veedersburg and Mrs. Edna May of Plymouth, and a granddaughter. Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, Wednesday, at the Veedersburg EUB Church. The Rev. Thomas Thurman of Danville and the Rev. J. Samuel Pritchard of Veedersburg officiating. Burial was in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with the Fishero Funeral Home in charge. Military and Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside.

He also was a veteran of WWII. He lived in this community until six years ago when he and his family moved to Danville. Mr. Cable was employed as a guard and fireman at the VA Hospital until his health began failing. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Gaye Martin of Covington; a brother, Earl Cable of Veedersburg; and two sisters, Mrs. Naomi King of Veedersburg and mrs. Edna May of Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the EUB Church here with Rev. Thomas Thurman and Rev. J. Samuel Pritchard officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. Masonic and military rites will be conducted at the graveside. Friends may pay their respects at the Fishero Funeral Home here after 7 p.m. Monday. The family will conduct prayer services at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. - kbz
