William Leslie Burroughs, 44 of the law firm of Foley, Burroughs & Berry of Crawfordsville died early Monday morning at Culver Hospital where he had been a patient since last Thursday. Mr. Burroughs was the husband of Rhoda Jane Finch Burroughs, formerly of Hillsboro. He had been ill with a heart ailment for the past year and had been hospitalized at Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville and at Mayo Brothers Hospital in Rochester, Minn. He was born Feb 7, 1911 in Crawfordsville, the only child of Mart and Helen Brown Burroughs. Graduated from Crawfordsville HS in 1929 and from Wabash College in 1933. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity at Wabash. He entered the University of PA Law school where he was graduated in 1937 and shortly afterward entered practice of law in Crawfordsville. Mr. Burrough was married Feb 16 1942 to Miss Rhoda Jane Finch, a school teacher and graduate of DePauw University where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. He served in World War II, having been a warrant officer in Hawaii for a period, holding rank of 1st Lt at time of his discharge. After his discharge he returned to Crawfordsville to resume his law practice. In 1948 Mr. Burroughs joined the firm of Foley, Foley & Burroughs which recently became Foley, Burroughs & Berry with John R. Berry joining the firm as a junior member. Mr. Burroughs was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Crawfordsville and also held membership in the American Legion and the Elks. Survivors are his wife and two daughters, Jane Ellen, 12 and Roxanne 8 years of age. The family resided at 1401 W Market street in Crawfordsville. Funeral service was held at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday with the Rev. Paul E. Million of the First Christian Church of Crawfordsville in charge. Burial was in the Shannondale Cemetery. – kbz
