A former Attica banker drowned Thursday following a fishing trip accident off the coast of Florida when the boat he was in hit a reef and broke into pieces. Paul W. Brown, 68, formerly of R. R. 3, Attica apparently drowned when the fishing boat he and a very close friend were using some distance from Jensen Beach, Florida, was destroyed and he failed to cling to fragments of the vessel with his friend, the only other passenger, who was later rescued. The body has not been located. Brown, who was born in Warren County March 16, 1897, worked for the Central National Bank and Trust Company in Attica for 25 years after finishing a tour of duty in the WWI with the U.S. Marine Corps. After semi-retirement from the bank, Brown worked with Rock Mickles for about four years. He was born to Evander C. Brown and Nellie McAdams Brown and was married to Hazel nee Wilson in 1920. She survives with two sons and a daughter; Bill of R.R. 4, Lafayette; Wayne, living in Japan; and Mrs. (Iva) J. Hall Crone. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one sister, Bell Kerr of Clinton, Iowa. He was a member of the American legion and the Moose Lodge. Brown graduated from Williamsport High school in 1915, and later graduated from Lafayette Business College. Funeral services were held at the DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica, Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 23, with Rev. Louis Haskell officiating.
