Funeral services for John H. Brown, age 87, a longtime resident of Veedersburg and a U. S. Army veteran of World War I, who died Tuesday morning, March 23, at the Indiana State Soldiers Home in Lafayette, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Sever Mortuary on the Hill in Veedersburg. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated. The American Legion took part in the services and burial was in Rockfield Cemetery, southeast of Veedersburg. Mr. Brown and his wife, Mary, had lived in the Soldiers Home for the past 16 months. Prior to that time they were residents of Veedersburg. He was born Aug. 11, 1877 at Grantsburg, Ind., the son of Squire and Elizabeth Wilbur Brown. In 1922 he married Mary A. Dinsmore in Veedersburg. He was a retired railroader and was employed for many years with the Chicago & Eastern Railroad in the maintenance department. He was a charter member of the Charles Forrest American Legion Post 288 of Veedersburg. Survivors include the widow; two brothers, Jason Brown of Lynn, Ind., and Hansel Brown of Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews.
