HILLSBORO — Helen Brown, 88, died at 1:25 a.m. Monday, June 14, 1999 in Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville, Ill. Born Nov. 15, 1910 in Georgetown, Ill., she was the daughter of Lawrence and Myrtle Waggaman Maudlin. She was married to Alton Brown, who preceded her in death. She made her home in Hillsboro for 85 years, before relocating to Danville in 1997. She graduated from Hillsboro High School. She was a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Pythian Sisters. She was employed as a cashier at the Hillsboro State Bank for more than 35 years. She enjoyed working in her garden, flowers and yard. Her hobbies included making afghans and quilts. Survivors include: daughter, Sue Ewbank; son-in-law, Dr. Robert Ewbank, Danville, Ill.; grandchildren, Dan Ewbank, Columbus, Ohio, Kimberly (John) Watson, Laurinburg, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, with Pastor Russell Smith of the St. James United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday). – jlr
