Attica—Fred W. Brier, 83, 911 S. Perry St., Attica, died at 10:41 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 1989 in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been hospitalized since Friday.
He was born Feb. 18, 1906 in Roberts in Fountain County, the son of Orrie Z. and Blanche Foreman Brier, and was reared in the Attica area. He also lived in Danville, Ill. from 1930 until returning to Attica in 1945. He was married March 14, 1930 in Newport to Helen N. Pool, who survives.
He graduated from Attica High School in 1926 and attended Butler University. He formerly was a truck driver for Pool Trucking in Danville, Ill., and later worked at Harrison Steel Castings Co., Attica, as a crane man until retiring in 1972.
He was a member of Attica Christian Church and attended Free Methodist Church in Attica. He was also a member of Upper Level Senior Citizens and a life member of Eagles Lodge 2596.
He was an avid sports fan.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Mrs. James (Connie) Helgers, Mellott; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Schultz, Lafayette, and Mrs. Harold (Katherine) DeBord, Williamsport; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Fred E.; his parents; three brothers, Cecil, Floyd and Merle, and a sister, Josephine Woodrow.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today in Maus Funeral Home Chapel, Attica, with the Rev. Edward Bennett officiating. Burial will in Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
Eagles memorial services were at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. -s
