Mrs. Bessie R. Ricketts Brier, 98, a former school teacher, died at 8:40 a.m. today in Lafayette healthcare center. She had been ill and a patient there the past year. Born near Potomac, Ill she was reared near Covington and lived at Attica before coming to Lafayette 35 years ago. She resided at 1000 S. 19th St. In 1905 she was married at Covington to Robert C. Brier, a retired carpenter and contractor, who died in 1969. Mrs. Brier taught school in Warren County prior to her marriage. She was an active member of Brown Street United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herman (Louise) Harper of Lafayette and Mrs. William (Florence) Munson of Attica; a son, Lowell R. Brier of Lafayette; one brother, Albert Ricketts of Danville, Ill and two sisters, Mrs. Fern Ward of Covington and Mrs. Eva Wilson of Attica. - kz

Brier, Mrs. Bessie R – Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Funeral Home. Services 2 p.m. Thursday in Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, the Rev. Norman Nellis officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A son, Lawrence C. Brier preceded her in death.
