ATTICA, Ind. — Clara Marie (Gayler) Branigin, 86, formerly of Attica, died at 3:15 a.m. Monday (June 18, 2001) at Manor Care South Nursing Center, Indianapolis. Clara was born March 10, 1915, in Covington, the daughter of Albert Earl and Pearl Auter Gayler. She lived in Attica from 1978 until moving to Indianapolis in 1996. She graduated from Attica High School in 1933 and from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1936. She formerly worked as a private duty nurse in Danville, Ill., and later worked as the head nurse on the 3-11 p.m. shift at the Woodland Manor Nursing Center in Attica. She was a member of the Fountain-Warren County R. N. Club and a member of the St. Elizabeth Alumni Association of Danville, Ill. Clara married Earl N. Branigin on Feb. 16, 1942, in Biloxi, Miss. He preceded her in death on May 10, 1966. Surviving are a daughter, Gale E. Branigin of Indianapolis; two grandsons, Derek Craig of Angola and Greer Evan Craig of Franklin; and a great-granddaughter, Trevor Marie Craig. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Marvin A. Gayler of Covington and a sister, Grace. Funeral services: 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23 at Maus Funeral Home in Attica; Officiating: Rev. Richard Throckmorton; Burial: Riverside Cemetery in Attica; Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 22 at the funeral home; Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. – jlr
