VEEDERSBURG — Joseph W. Bowman, 87, Veedersburg, died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2002 in the Waters of Covington. He was born April 25, 1914 in Sterling, the son of Elliot J. and Effie Banta Bowman. He married Marie E. Dickey June 10, 1934 in Parke County. She preceded in death Nov. 6, 2000 after 66 years of marriage. He graduated from high school in 1934. He served in the Navy during World War II. He owned and operated the Bowman Standard Gas Station in Veedersburg for several years. He retired from Dormeyer in Rockville. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Veedersburg, the American Legion Post #288, the Rockville V.F.W. and the Elks in Rockville. He enjoyed the outdoors, working in the garden, fishing, boating and hunting. Survivors include: a niece and several nephews. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with the Rev. Don Smothers officiating. Burial was in Bonebrake Cemetery. Preferred memorials to the First Christian Church or donor's choice. – jlr
