VEEDERSBURG- Elliott J. Bowman, 83, retired blacksmith, died Friday night at 8:15 in his home at Veedersburg. He had been in failing health one year and seriously ill one day. Born May 30, 1876 near Wallace, Mr. Bowman was the son of Jacob and Catherine Wilkinson Bowman. He married Effie Banta in 1897. The wife died in 1958. Mr. Bowman was a member of the Christian Church. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Alma Stump and Mrs. Thelma Smick, both of Hammond, and Mrs. Armilda Wilbur of Veedersburg; four sons, Bruce and Joe Bowman of Veedersburg, Allen Bowman of Hammond, and David Bowman of Cayuga; two brothers, Glenn Bowman of Pine Village and William Bowman of Newton, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Walter Gott of Rantoul, Ill. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Wolf Creek Baptist Church near Wallace. Burial will be at the Wolf Creek Cemetery, Rev. Samuel Pritchard will officiate.
