VEEDERSBURG, Ind. - David S. Bowman, 52, of Fairland Route 1, formerly of Veedersburg and Avon, died Thursday (March 5, 1970) at his home. Death was due to natural causes. He had been ill for a short time. Mr. Bowman was born May 3, 1917, in Veedersburg, son of Elliott and Effie Banta Bowman. He had resided in Fairland since September 1969 prior to which he resided in Kingman and Avon for two years. He married Mildred Bass April 13, 1941, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Jenny) Overton and Mrs. Lynda Mendell both of Indianapolis, Mrs. Gene (Susan) Austin of Lizton; two sons, John, a student at Sam Houston University, Huntsville, Tex., and Jeff at home; a sister, Mrs. Thelma Smick of Hammond; and three brothers, Bruce Bowman of Veedersburg, Joe Bowman of Rockville and Allen Bowman of St. John. Mr. Bowman, who was employed as a sales representative for the Inter-Lake Steel Corp., of Indianapolis, attended Indiana University and was a graduate of Butler University. He engaged in athletics while in school, was a member of the I-Men's Association at Indiana University and was basketball and football coach at high schools in Lowell and Griffith. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Veedersburg American Legion Post and of the Veedersburg Christian Church. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. EST Monday at the Sleeth Funeral Home in She1byville with the Rev. Richard Rasche officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery at Shelbyville. Friends may call after 2 p.m. EST Sunday at the funeral home.
