CATES — Arthur Monroe "Roe" Bowling, age 68, died at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 25, in his home here after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bowling had retired four years ago as a crossing watchman for the Wabash Railroad at Danville, Ill., where he had been employed 20 years. Before that he was a farmer. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America here. A Fountain County native, he was born Jan. 25, 1899, the son of Charles C. and Dessie West Bowling. He was married Aug. 8, 1929 to Grace Harvey, who survives. Surviving, in addition to the wife, are: his mother, who resides in Bloomingdale; seven sons, Robert and Donald of Cates, Arthur C. of Covington Rt. 3, Jesse Lee and William O., both of Kingman and James and Lowell at home; one step-son, Robert Nolan of Veedersburg Rt. 4; one sister Mrs. Sylvia Smith of Indianapolis; three brothers, Charles of Long Beach, Calif., Wilmer of Indianapolis and Marvin (Wick) of Cates; 32 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, one daughter and two brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington. The Rev. Glenn Ray, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Coal Creek Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home Wednesday night, Dec. 27.
