BOWLES, Lance Connor

Lance Connor Bowles, 16, Attica High School junior and three-sport letterman, was fatally injured in a one car accident Saturday night two miles north of Covington.
The son of Charles J. (Ben) and Mary O’Connor Bowles, 406 S. Perry St., Attica, Lance was a passenger in a car being driven by James M. Johnson, 16, also an Attica High School junior, who was seriously injured. Johnson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson Jr., 201 E. Monroe St., Attica, was listed in “guarded” condition this morning in Danville’s St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Johnson was apparently headed north on the Portland Arch Road at about 11:45 p.m. when the car he was driving went off the left side of the road, hit a culvert and flipped back onto the road.
Lance Bowles was born in Williamsport on May 15, 1961, and was a lifelong resident of Attica.
He was a member of Attica Presbyterian Church, Lettermen’s Club, the Covington Track Club, and was involved in varsity basketball, football and track.
Surviving besides the parents are the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodford Bowles of Newtown; two sisters, Mrs. Steve (Christy) Bonebrake of Lafayette and Mrs. Steve (Kathy) Burnell of Terre Haute.
Friends were received from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Maus Funeral Home Monday. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Lambert Memorial Gym at the Attica High School with the Re. Kenneth Burris and the Rev. Edward Matuszak officiating. Interment followed at the Newtown Cemetery, Newtown.
