Mrs. Verdia Bowen of Covington, age 77, died Sunday morning, November 8, in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Illinois. She was born in Sciota, Illinois, December 21, 1903, the daughter of James M. and Lydia Sowers. She first married Fred Burlin and on June 21, 1927, married Forrest Bowen, who died February 7, 1964.
Mrs. Bowen was a member of Covington First Church of Christ, Friendship Garden Club, Troy Home Demonstration Club and Senior Citizens. She and her husband had owned and operated the Bowen Poultry House and the Bowen Coal Mine in Covington for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Florence B. Grimble of Covington; a son, Stanley M. Burlin of Attica; a sister, Mrs. Beulah Bounds of LaPalma, California; three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a great great grandson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Murray Strange officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Covington. – thanks to S
