Dr. Cecil E. Boord, a 1907 graduate of Wabash College and a native of Veedersburg, died this week in a nursing home in Columbus, Ohio, after a long illness. He was 85. Dr. Boord was a retired professor emeritus of Ohio State University and internationally known for his research in hydrocarbon chemistry. Funeral. services were held Wednesday in Columbus. Known as a teacher and research scientist, Dr. Boord was awarded the prized Joseph Sullivant Medal in 1955 in recognition of "notable achievement" in the arts and sciences by an alumnus or faculty member of Ohio State. In scientific and industrial circles, he earned the titles of "dean of hydrocarbon chemistry" and "designer and builder of gasolines" through his years of pioneering research in the syntheses and testing of hydrocarbon components of gasoline. Dr. Boord is survived by his wife, Augsuta; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Greenlee, and three grandchildren.

VEEDERSBURG — Word of the death of Cecil E. Boord, age 85, of Columbus, Ohio, eldest son of the late Rev. John S. and Rose Ann Campbell Boord, was received here recently. He was a graduate of Veedersburg High School with the class of 1904, and in 1907 he graduated from Wabash College, Crawfordsville. He went immediately to Ohio State, he became affiliated with the American Petroleum Co., and was instrumental in perfecting the fuel that is used in the jet planes of today. Mr. Boord was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, John, Wendell P., and Ted Boord, all of the Osborn Prairie community. He is survived by his wife, Augusta; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Greenlee, and three grandchildren, also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
