One of Chanute's pioneer residents, Orlando Booe, 89 d. Monday afternoon June 9 at 3:30 at his home at 501 N. Garfield. Mr. Booe suffered a fractured right hip about 14 weeks ago and had since been confined to his bed. Previously on Jan 19, 1937 Mr. Booe suffered a fracture to his left hip. Mr. B. was a resident of the Scott's Pararie commun. at one time for a period of years and was closely related to the late Lawson Booe and Tilghlman H. Booe of Veedersburg. After recovering from the first accident, Mr. Booe had resumed his activities and was seen frequently at the services at the Christian Church. He joined the church in Indiana in 1871 and has been active through the years. Born in Fountain County, Indiana on Feb 12, 1852, Mr. Booe was married to Elizabeth Philpott on Dec 17, 1876 in Indiana. They came to Kansas with 5 families in covered wagons and arrived in Humbolt on Oct 30, 1879. They moved to Chanute on Feb 16, 1886. For 29 years, Mr. Booe was employed in the Bloomheart Grocery store which was located on E. Main St. The Booes had lived in the same home since moving to Chanute. Survivors are the widow; a son, Fred Booe, 507 Garfield and a daughter, Mrs. Sibyle McGrannham, Dallas, Tx. Scherel Booe, of Chanute is a grandson. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon June 11 at 2 o'clock at the Christian Church. The Rev. Dr. Eugene N. Duty was in charge. Burial in Leanna cemetery.
