Funeral services for Col. C. E. Boner, age 65, U. S. A. Reserve (Ret.), native of Covington, who died Saturday, Dec. 15, at his home, 2118 Tucker Lane, Baltimore, Md., after an extended illness, were held Wednesday, Dec. 19, in Baltimore. The services were held at Hunting Ridge Presbyterian Church with military burial in Baltimore National Cemetery. Colonel Boner was born in Covington, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Boner, well known Covington residents. He attended the Mount Comfort, Ind., High School and Indiana State College in Terre Haute. He went to Baltimore in 1938 from Leesburg, Ind., where he was an agent for the Paul Revere Life Insurance Co., and the Massachusetts Protective Association. In 1948 he retired as general agent for both companies, having occupied that position for 10 years. In 1934 Col. Boner was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Reserve. He was on active duty during World War 2, from 1940-1946, as post transportation officer at Fort George G. Meade. There he directed the movement of military material and some 4,000,000 troops to overseas installations and other camps. He was president of the Fort Meade Officers Club and the post's chapter of National Sojourners, a service-wide fraternity of officers. He received the Army commendation medal for outstanding services in moving men and material. At Fort Meade he also was an instructor in the Officers Training School, and an instructor in the Command and General Staff School. Noted for his ability as an instructor, he received letters of commendation from the commanding officer. Following his retirement from the Army in 1957, Col. Boner lived in Deerfield Beach, Fla., for 2 1/2 years before moving back to Baltimore. He was a Sunday School teacher at Hunting Ridge Presbyterian Church, where he also served as an ordained elder on the Session. Survivors include his wife, the former Jessie Crooks; one daughter, Mrs. J. S. Zimmerman of Baltimore; and four grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. R. Carl Keller of Covington Rt. 3 attended the services in Baltimore. They returned home on Saturday, Dec. 22.
