Mont M. Boatman of Covington, age 85, died Tuesday evening, July 20, in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Illinois. He was born in Fountain County, August 31, 1896, the son of Sam and Abbie Glover Boatman. He first married Cleo Wilson, who died July 29, 1958. January 16, 1960, he married Carrie Crane, who survives.
Boatman was a former Fountain County deputy clerk, treasurer, auditor, and deputy sheriff. He was employed as a teller with Veedersburg First National Bank and was proprietor of a Covington drug store. A member of Covington United Methodist Church, he was a director of Hub Savings and Loan Company several years.
Also surviving are a daughter, Tiny Dice of Veedersburg; two sons, Sam of Danville, Illinois, and Monte Jr. of Evansville; a stepson, Lowell Crane of Veedersburg; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. James Bushfield officiating. Burial was in Osborne Prairie Cemetery. – thanks to S
