Source: Richmond Weekly Palladium Sat Sept 16, 1843 p 3

Died – in Covington, Indiana on Friday the 1st inst of congestive fever, Lewis C. Biles, Esq in the 23rd year of his age.  The deceased came to Covington about 9 months since in fine health and high spirits, in question of a location for the practice of his profession – with him he brought a letter of introduction to the editor of this paper – we introduced him here to the officers of the county and his brethren of the bar – and he concluded to remain with us – he soon made friends, formed a partnership in the practice of law with Messrs Hannegan & Mallory – entered into practice under favorable auspices and with a fine prospect of success.  Before coming to this place he had travelled much on land and as a mariner, many miles on the briney deep – he had visited the chief commercial marts of the union; and afterwards settled down and studied law with Messrs. Fletcher & Butler of Indianapolis, applied and obtained license to practice in the Circuit and Supreme Courts of the state and was a candidate for principal clerk to the Senate of Indiana at its last session and came within a few votes of being elected – and up to the time of his sickness he got a fair share of the practice in this court and merited and received the respect of all who knew him and his remains were conveyed to the burial place attended by a large number of friends and acquaintance and were deposited in the tomb the receptable for all the living on the 2d day of September 1843 there to lie until the resurrection morn.  He died among strangers but they were friends. An affection mother and other connexions (sic) together with numerous acquaintances are left to mourn his loss. (Covington People’s Friend)
