Julia A. Bever, the daughter of Josephine (sic) and Anna E. Pearson was born in Fountain County, Indiana April 23, 1850 and departed this life, Nov 5, 1922 being 72 years old at the time of her death. At the age of 19 years she was married to James Bever, also a resident of Fountain County, Indiana. To this union 7 children were born three have preceded her to the great beyond, Olive E, Clarence M and an infant daughter. Those surviving: Florence A. Neisen of St. Louis; Walter E, of Minn; Iva E. Davenport; and Ertie J. Surber of near Thompson, Mo. Sister Bever with her children came to Missouri about 24 years ago. Our first acquaintance with her was about 12 or 13 years ago when my co-laborers, Bros WA McCollum, CF Doss and Chas. Purdue and I held a tent meeting in Thompson. So far as we know this was Sister Bever’s First Holiness meeting. She attended almost every service and took an active part in song and testimony with a life behind it all, proving that she was one of God’s children and endorsed the Word given out. About 3 years ago, when Bro AL Pipes was holding a tent meeting in Mexico, Mo she keenly felt her need of a closer walk with God. She sought and obtained the experience of entire sanctification and at once became identified with the Church of God at that place, and remained a faithful member to the time of her death. Eight months of 1920 and the entire year of 1921 we served as pastor of the church at Mexico. We found Sister Bever a very bold, courageous soldier of the cross of Christ. She was indeed anoble woman a real mother in Israel. All the children were present at the funeral which was conducted by the writer. A short service was held at the home in South Mexico, on Tuesday Nov 7 at 12:15 pm thence to Liberty Church north of Thompson where the funeral services were held at 2 p.m. among her old neighbors and friends as this is the place where she first settled when she came to Missouri. After services her body was placed in the cemetery at that place, her grandsons acting as pallbearers. May grace, mercy, and peace rest on each of the children and grandchildren and may they love and serve the same God mother and grandmother did. Wm. G. Robinson - transcribed by kbz
