All of life must end, even that glamour of beautiful summer turns radiant with autumn, the green of the trees change to brown and gold, and the rustic leaves flutter to the ground. We, in likeness, one by one, lay down our burdens and retire for a long and peaceful rest. Elijah W. Bever, one of a family of 6 children born to Isaac and Sarah Jane Lowe Bever was born July 25, 1863 near Hillsboro IN and at the early hour of 2:30 a.m. departed this life on Thursday morning, July 22, 1943, at his home 2 mi NW of Wallace. On April 10, 1884 he was married to Mary Etta Shoaf. To this union were born 7 children. His wife and four children preceded him in death. In 1936 Elijah Bever was married to Jane E. Carter who with the 3 sons survive. Elijah Bever's entire life has been spent in Jackson Township where no one person has done more for the improvements and advancement of the township's enterprizes than he has done. As one of the earliest pioneer families, they had to clear a place for their home, the forests were so dense that they marked the trees when they left their home in order to be able to return on the right trail. He worked hard to improve the land and make it possible to have the roads we have today. The telephone and everything that pertained to the interest of his neighbors and the good of all he was more than itnerested in. God gave him to us as a baby to grow and do the many good deeds which are to his credit and now as his work, here on earth has been so well done he leaves us on his 80th birthday to return to his Heavenly Father. He was a member of the Freedom Christian Church. He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his devoted wife, Jane Carter Bever, the 3 sons: Ora of Powell, Wyoming who had arrived at his father's home on Thursday afternoon to be here for his father's birthday; Charles of near Wallace and Delbert at home. 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Mary Etta Shoaf of Danville, Ill. Other relatives and a host of friends who will long remember him as a very capable, honest and industrious man. May we rejoice in our heritage of Christian principle which he has left us and in his eternal rest and a home in glory.
