MELLOTT – Floyd Elmer Bernarte, 68, who had lived here the past two years and worked as a landfill watchman, died at 9:40 p.m. Saturday in Veterans Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been a patient there since Aug. 20. Mr. Bernarte was a farmer most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the army. He was born on Oct. 6, 1905, at Redwing, Minn., a son of Frank Edward and Cassie Bell Thomas Bernarte. He was first married to Thelma Coffman on June 5, 1943, at Danville, Ky. She preceded him in death. He later married Fannie Farrell on July 31, 1954, also at Danville, Ky. She also preceded him in death. Before moving to Mellott, Mr. Bernarte had lived at Junction City, Ky. Surviving are three step-daughters, Mrs. Jewel Baker of Moreland, Ky., Mrs. Maxine McFarlen and Mrs. Zula Austin of Junction City, Ky.; four stepsons, Delbert Farrell of Ohio, Chester of Dayton, Elwood of Cleveland and Woodrow of Livonia, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Head of West Lebanon and Mrs. May Dailey of Rt. 2, Attica, and 12 grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Dale Maus Funeral Home at Attica with the Rev. Clyde Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Attica. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
