Funeral rites were held for Harry Benefield, 72 at Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with Rev. James Huber, pastor of the Nazarene Church in charge.  Mrs. Vera Shades and Mrs. Pearl Hall, accompanied by Mrs. Mabel Brown sang, “Beyond the Sunset,” and Good Night Here and Good morning Up there.” The pall bearers were Alva Myers, Leslie Bell, Bronson Bever, Ernest Jeffries, Harry Gray and Howard Colson who also assisted with flowers. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery west of Hillsboro. Mrs. Benefield died unexpected at his home in Hillsboro about 3 p.m. Thursday Dec 30.  He had gone downtown, stopped at Gray’s restaurant where his wife is employed and they walked home together. Shortly after reaching home he complained of a pain in his chest and died before a doctor could be summoned.  Mr. Benefield, son of John and Rebecca Benefield was born in Indiana April 27, 1882. On April 19, 1903 he was married to Gertrude Overman and most of their married life had been spent in Fountain County.  They resided on a farm in the New Liberty neighborhood for a number of years and when they retired thye moved to Hillsboro. Since moving here he had been employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the New Liberty Christian Church. The widow and one son, Walter Benefield of near Hillsboro survive and one son John died at age 6.  Other survivors are a brother, Frank Benefield of Coffeyville, Kansas; a granddaughter and three great grandchildren. – kbz
