William Bender, one of the oldest residents of Davis Township died at the home of his nephew, Monroe Kline, Sunday morning at 2 o’clock.  The cause of his death was senile gangrene and ulceration of the stomach.  He had been in poor health for several years, 8 years ago having had his toes amputated on account of gangrene. During the past year especially his health had failed very fast, and the last month of his life he had been confined continuously to his bed. He was born in Burks County, Penn Dec 1, 1822 and moved from there to Montgomery County Ohio in 1838. Then in 1853, he came to this county where he spent the remainder of his life. He lived the life of a bachelor, making his home with his brother, Isaac until recent years since when he had been living alone at his own home with the exception of the last month of his life when he removed to the home of his nephew, Monroe Kline.  The funeral services were conducted from the Salem Church Monday morning at 10:30 o’clock Rev. JJ Schermerhorn officiating.  Interment was made in the Salem Cemetery.
