John D. Bell of South Bend, formerly of Attica, age 56, died Thursday evening, October 7, in the Veterans Hospital at Indianapolis after having heart surgery. He was born in Attica, February 25, 1926, the son of William Lesley and Ethel Baker Bell. He married Joan Snow. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Attica VFW and had worked as an upholsterer for Allen Trim Shop in Attica and for Harrison Steel Casting Company.

  Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Bell of RR 4, Attica; two sons, Rodger and Terry, both of Bellingham, Washington; five sisters, Mavis Carney and Myrtle Stinebaugh, both of Attica, Virginia Haines of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Thelma Kamstra of Delphi and Rose Ann McCarthy of South Bend; three brothers, Edward of Attica, Wayne of South Bend and William of Veedersburg; and six grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Maus Funeral Home in Attica with Rev. Edward Osborne officiating. Military graveside rites and burial were in Riverside Cemetery at Attica.
