John Paul Beck, Jr. 70 of Hillsboro died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday March 9, 1997 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Danville, Ill after an extended illness. Born Dec 31, 1926 in Crawfordsville, he was the son of John Paul and Bessie Hyatt Beck, Sr. Surviving are four sons, Rex of Hillsboro; Ryan of Veedersburg; Roger of Lafayette and Rick of Covington; one daughter, Rhoda Kelly of Veedersburg; one brother, Gerald Beck of Lafayette; one sister, Mary Ann Slavens of Indianapolis and 14 grandchildren. Mr. Beck was a retired farmer and auctioneer. He was a graduate of Waynetown HS. He was a WWII US Navy veteran and attained the rank of Electrician's Mate Third Class. He was a member of the Waynetown Christian Church, AQHA, VFW #2395 of Covington. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Beck was creamted and a graveside service for the creamins was Wednesday at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with Covington VFW Post conducting military honors and Rev. Bud Stidham officiating. Hillsboro - John Paul Beck, Jr. 70 of Hillsboro died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday in Veterans Medical Center, Danville, Ill after an extended illness. He was a farmer and a retired auctioneer. He served with the Navy during WWII.  Mr. Beck was a member of the Waynetown Christian Church, American Quarter Horse Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2395 of Covington. He was a graduate of Waynetown High School.  He was born Dec 31, 1926 at Crawfordsville, to John Paul and Bessie Hyatt Beck.

Surviving are four sons, Rex of Hillsboro; Ryan of Veedersburg; Roger of Lafayette and Rick of Covington; a daughter, Rhoda Kelly of Veedersburg; a brother, Gerald of Lafayette; a sister, Mary Ann Slavens of Indianapolis and 14 grandchildren.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Bud Stidham officiating. The body will be created and there will be no calling.  Covington VFW Post 2395 will conduct graveside military honors.  Shoemaker Funeral Home at Waynetown is in charge of arrangements.   - kbz
