James T. Beasley, age 75, a resident of Covington for 13 years since he moved from Aylesworth community, died at 1:50 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at the home of a son, Robert, of Veedersburg Rt. 4. He had been ill since February and considered in serious condition for five weeks. He died following a heart attack. Following his retirement from active farming 20 years ago, he became township committeeman for the Agriculture Soil Conservation office in Fountain County and also served as jury commissioner for the Fountain County Circuit Court for three years. Mr. Beasley was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge 60, F&AM of Covington and was a past 32nd degree Mason and Low Twelve Club. He also was a member of the Indianapolis Scottish Rite. Mr. Beasley belonged to the Bethel Methodist Church east of Attica. Born in Champaign County, Ill., June 9, 1885, he was the son of James M. and Charlotte O'Dell Beasley. On Jan. 3, 1918, he married the former Laura Irene Galloway, who died in March 1959. Survivors include the son at whose home he died, a daughter, Mrs. Dana (Laura) Keyes of Flora; a sister, Mrs. Lillis Meck of Toledo, Ohio and three grandchildren. Two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, Sept. 26 at 1:30 o'clock at the Hegg Funeral Home here. The Rev. A. E. McConnell officiated, with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Attica. Masonic graveside rites were conducted, with pallbearers: Roy C. (Judge) Fenters, Fred LaTourette, Gene Brooks, Charles Frey, Leland Moore, and Forrest (Jack) Kay.
