COVINGTON, Ind., (CNS) -- Mrs. Elizabeth Smith Baumer, 71, of Lafayette, a former Fountain County resident, died Thursday (Nov. 15, 1973) after a short illness. Born Sept. 13, 1902, in Fountain County, she was the daughter of William H. and Genettie Bonebrake Myers. She was married in 1925 to Val G. Smith, who died in November of 1954. She was married in August of 1965 to Leon J. Baumer, who died Aug. 1, 1972. A resident of Lafayette since 1935, she had formerly lived in Potomac, Ill., Danville, Ill., and Hoopeston, Ill. She graduated from Kingman High and Indiana Central Normal College in Danville, Ind. She taught school in Fountain County and Danville, Ill. and owned the Yellow Cab, Red Cab and Avis Rent-A-Car companies in Lafayette until her retirement in 1971. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist of Boston, Mass., Lafayette Business and Professional Club, National Federation of Republican Women, American Legion Auxiliary and various other civic organizations. Survivors include a brother, Warren E. Myers of Covington; a niece, Mrs. Harold Hanley of Covington; and two nephews, Wisher Myers of Veedersburg and John T. Myers of Covington. She was also preceded in death by a brother and a son, Tom Val Smith, former teacher at Lafayette Jefferson High at the time of his death in February of 1958. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. EST Sunday, at Bonebrake Cemetery near Veedersburg. There will be no visitation. The family has requested any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Cancer Society.--waw
