Veedersburg - Sherman H. Bass, 59, Rt 4, Veedersburg died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday in Veteran Administration Hospital, Danville, Ill. Bass was born July 16, 1918 to Jesse W. and Sylvia Smith Bass of Georgetown Ill. He married Reatha Booe Whitaker of Crawfordsville July 15, 1946. She survives. Surviving are his father of Hillsboro; four sons, Harold of Lafayette; Sherman L; Robert D and Gary D at home; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Chiltock of Rt 2, Veedersburg, Linda Sue and Mary Louise of Mississippi; a stepdaughter, Karen Rudd of Danville; three brothers, Bill of Crawfordsville; Chet of Glasgow, Ky; and Floyd of Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Underwood of Ore City, Tx and Mrs. Martha Harlan of Veedersburg; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bass was preceded in death by his mother, two brothers and two sisters. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in Dickerson Funeral Home with Rev. Hubert Wilson officiating. Burial in Danville National Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday.

Veedersburg - Sherman H. Bass 59 a construction worker died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday in Veterans Hospital, Danville, Ill.  He had been in failing health the past three years. He was born at Georgetown, Ill but lived most of his life in the Veedersburg area.  He was employed by FI Mitchell Construction at Veedersburg.  In 1946 he was married to Reatha Whitaker who survives.  Mr. Bass was a veteran of World War II. Surviving with the widow are four sons, including Harold Bass of rural Lafayette. Three daughters and a stepdaughter also survive.
