ATTICA — Keith Edwin “Barney” Barnhart, 73, 305 E. Monroe St., Attica, died at 7:58 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He was born Jan. 27, 1926 in Auburn, the son of Leon and Gladys Hazel Dannells Barnhart. He married Elizabeth “Lib” Ann Rogers April 3, 1946 in Greencastle, who survives. He had lived in Auburn, Greencastle, Chicago and had resided in Attica since May 1950. He graduated from Auburn High School. He received his degrees from DePauw, Purdue and Northwestern Universities. He was admitted to the Indiana Bar May 19, 1950. He began his law practice in Attica June 1, 1950. In 1976 Tom O'Connor joined the firm and the law form of Barnhart & O'Connor was established. Barnhart served as the City of Attica attorney from 1953-1957, 1960-1970 and 1976-1987. He served as the Fountain County attorney from 1969-1975 and from 1978 to the present. He was a member of Attica First United Methodist Church and was a member of the church choir. He had served on several different boards of the church. He was a member and past president of the Attica Lions Club. He was a member of the Fountain County Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, Attica Eagles Lodge #2596, American Legion Post #52, V.F.W. Post #3318, and he served on the board of didrectors for the Fountain-Warren County Senior Citizens Center. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Navy. He was active in the Attica community by coaching Little League baseball. He was an avid gardener and golfer. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a daughter, Deborah Ann Barnhart, Terre Haute; a son, Steven Keith (Donna) Barnhart, St. Peters, Mo., his pet dog, Bogey; and two sisters, Doris See, Garrett; Ruth Musser, Auburn. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Fuenral services were at 11 a.m. Monday in Attica First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Newton officiating. Burial with military gravesite services were in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Maus Funeral Home, Attica, was in charge of arrangements.
