BARKER, Vaughn O. - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Vaughn O. Barker, 70 of Cates died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday March 25, 1978 at St. Eliz. Hospital Danville, Ill. He had been a patient 9 days. A resident of Cates most of his life, he was a retired coal miner. He was a former employee of the Indiana State Highway Department for 8 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and an avid fisherman and hunter. Born Aug 21, 1907 in Parke Co, he was the s/o Bayless C and Jane Riley Barker. On Oct 5, 1928 he married Lois Childers, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) New; a son, Maurice Barker; a brother Gerald Cs; 8 grandchildren and two steps. He was preceded in death by a daughter, 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Services will be at 4 p.m. EST Tuesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with the Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral whom with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9.
