John W. Barker, 71, dies near Cates Covington Feb 24 John Willard Barker, 71 a life-long resident of Fountain Co died at 12:45 o'clock Thursday afternoon at his home, NW of Cates. He had been ill five months with a heart ailment Mr. Barker was b. Dec 10, 1877, a s/o Joseph Bryant & Anna Sowers Barker. He was married Aug 2, 1905 to Cora A. Hacker, who d. in 1937. Four sons survive, Arnold L Barker and Russell B. Barker both of Kendallville; Ralph A BarkerCovington and Fred C. Barker. There are also 7 grandchildren. Mr. Barker was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Yeddo. Members of the lodge will be pall bearers at the funeral service in the Cates EUB church at 2 o'clock Sun afternoon. Rev. Austrew, pastor, will officiate and Rev. and Mrs. Wamsley will sing. Masonic rites will be given at the graveside in the Harveysburg Cemetery. --Transcribed by Karen Zach

John Willard Barker, 71, farmer residing northwest of Cates, died Thursday afternoon at his home. He was ill five months of a heart ailment. Mr. Barker was born Dec. 10, 1877 and was a life resident of Fountain County. He was the son of Joseph Bryant Barker and Anna Sowers Barker. He was married Aug. 2, 1905 to Cora C. Hackler, who died Dec. 24, 1937. Surviving are four sons, Arnold L. and Russell B., Kendallville, Ind., Ralph A., Covington and Fred C., Kingman; and seven grandchildren. – S&E
